Program Overview

Elementary Literacy Inc. offers Elementary Literacy Friends (ELF), a volunteer-based reading program, to Anglophone schools across New Brunswick. A separate program, Communautés littératie enfants francophones (CLEF) is offered to francophone schools. ELF and CLEF are supplementary reading achievement programs that strengthen and build upon classroom teaching that students experience everyday.
ELF programming pairs trained community volunteers with grade 2 students who require additional time on task to master various literacy skills they require for learning to read well, as identified by their classroom teacher. Students are mentored for one hour, twice per week, for 10 weeks.
Time Commitment Graphic
We are currently offering ELF in 107 schools across New Brunswick and are expanding everyday. Please contact us about offering ELF at your school today!
