To many of us, literacy is as basic a skill as walking. It's the foundation of learning. It's so fundamental that we can’t imagine being without it. And yet; in our schools; many children are struggling to acquire this very basic ability. It’s as though a conversation is going on that many cannot understand.
With Elementary Literacy Friends, you have the chance to make a positive and lifelong impact. Influencing the development of an individual child can impact how they contribute to society throughout their life.
In New Brunswick, an estimated 20-30% of school-aged children are struggling to read at their age-appropriate level. As a volunteer tutor, you can make a difference; one child at a time.
What we're asking of you is just one hour of your time; two days a week; for ten weeks. It's a total commitment of twenty hours over three months.
ELF will supply you with training; materials; books; feedback; and all of the support we can provide, to have a lasting and positive influence on a young person’s life. Help a little reader join in the conversation!
